Note 1. Soon after we set up camp in mid-1977, Steve and Barbara made this garden, complete with irrigation system. With the addition of bird netting, the garden flourished, producing tomatoes, zucchinis, jalapenos, pumpkin squash, and more. The garden eventually perished once the Camp troop baboons became accustomed to us and started using the camp area as one of their principle roosts.
Note 2. One night I heard alarm calls from Z Troop on the Airstrip Island about 1 km from camp. I drove out and, with the help of a spolight, found a leopard in the trees hunting the baboons. I watched for a while, but the leopard appeared to be disturbed by my presence. The next morning I returned to the site and found this carcass of an adult female baboon stashed high up in the crotch of a tree. This was one of several kills that we detected between 1977 and 1980.
