Adult Male and Infant Baboons
Here is my thesis in a nutshell. An adult male (WBH, left) protectively holds his likely infant offsping. The infant watches the alpha male (WNR, right) groom an estrus female (WEM). The alpha male had immigated after the infant was conceived, could not have been its father, and was a potential threat to the infant’s life. 
This photo is a continuation of the previous one. Immigrant male WNR yawns, exposing his significant canines. The adult female WEM has a fully swollen perineum and is likely near the time of ovulation. Long-term resident male WBH and his likely infant offspring watch from 5 m away.
Adult female WPG calmly holds her infant and maintains proximity to the infant’s likely father WCK, who digs through the soil following a recent fire.
